The LifeVac® device is a non-invasive, portable airway clearance tool designed to help in choking emergencies. It is the ONLY such device approved for sale in Australia by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA).

How LifeVac® Works
Easy-to-Use Design
LifeVac® is designed to be simple enough for anyone to use, even without training. It features a patented, one-way valve that prevents air from being pushed downward, making it safe for clearing obstructions from the upper airway in babies through to the elderly.
Quick Step-by-Step Guide
Using a LifeVac® is as simple as 1, 2, 3:
1. Place
Place the LifeVac® over the victim’s mouth and nose to create a secure seal with the mask.
2. Push
Push down on the handle to compress the LifeVac® and expel the air via its patented valve.
3. Pull
Hold the device securely in place with one hand, and pull the handle sharply with the other.
This 3-step process creates a strong suction to dislodge the obstruction in the airway.
If the airway remains blocked, repeat the process until the obstruction is cleared.
You may also need to sweep the victim’s mouth to ensure the offending object is expelled.

Non-Invasive Safety
Unlike traditional methods like the Heimlich manoeuvre, LifeVac® does not require any invasive procedures or forceful actions that could potentially cause injury. The one-way valve ensures that there is no risk of pushing the object further down the airway. However, it is recommended to follow prescribed First Aid techniques before using the LifeVac® – this is essentially because the time taken to get the device and fit the mask is longer than to immediately attempt traditional First Aid techniques.
Portable and Ready for Use
The device is lightweight and portable, making it easy to keep in accessible locations such as kitchens, vehicles, or backpacks. It requires no power source, batteries, or complicated assembly, so it’s always ready for use in an emergency.
